Is figuring out the timing of your wedding day stressing you out??

In this post, I’m sharing 4 of my tips to make the most of your wedding day by building the perfect wedding day timeline.  As a Sacramento & destination wedding photographer, I have seen it all and want to help you have the best day ever and get that photos you’ll cherish forever!  Plus I’m sharing some beautiful photos from a Park Winters Wedding!

1) Check the time of sunset on your wedding day

If you are wanting those dreamy golden hour photos, then you have to plan around the time of the sun! Check sunrisesunset.com to help plan for the best time for your ceremony and portraits. About 2 hours before sunset is the best time for your ceremony.  It will help make sure your guests are roasting in the sun and you’ll have even light.  Be sure to ask your photographer for their advice!

2) Start with your ceremony time and then work backwards

The ceremony is kind of the big deal on your wedding day, right? So you want to start planning your wedding day timeline around your ceremony start time.  Be sure to check with your venue for the best time of light at your ceremony time and also take into consideration what time dinner will be.  Also, check with your officiant to find out how long your ceremony will be.  I usually suggest that any photos captured before the ceremony end at least half an hour before the ceremony start time.  From there, figure out which portraits you’re doing before and how much time you will need.  Then you will know what time hair and make up needs to be done and so on!  Also, decide whether or not you will do a first look!  That will also dictate which portraits can be taken when and will affect the timeline at one point or another.

3) Check in with your other vendors

Be sure to communicate with vendors to make sure you know how much time you will need for hair and makeup, transportation, ect.  They will help guide you with their needs.  Also, hiring a wedding planner can really help keep everyone on the same page.  This is my biggest piece of advice to couples!  Hire a wedding planner! It will save you so much stress and help your wedding day run smoothly!

4)  Create space

Pad your timeline and give yourself some buffer.  No matter how well you plan, things can often take longer than expected. Try to build in some extra time throughout the day to allow for any unexpected delays or mishaps.  Consider factors such as travel time, hair and makeup, and photography when creating a timeline.  I work with all of my couples or their wedding planners to create a custom wedding day timeline so that they get all the wedding photos they have been dreaming of!
